How do I access medical e-textbooks for my courses?

Links in Student/Research Guides and the Catalog

  • You do not need to log into anything before clicking the link to a book in the required/recommended reading guide or from the library catalog.
  • After you click the link you will be prompted to enter your ACE information. This login will be remembered for a couple of hours, so if you click on other titles without closing the browser you will still be recognized and not have to re-enter your ACE.
  • Most books will appear immediately; HOWEVER, if the first time you login is to access an Elsevier/Clinical Key book it will take you to the main ClinicalKey landing page after logging in. If this happens, go back to the libguide page (one tab to the left on your browser) and click the title again.

Links in Syllabi or Documents

  • Problems often occur when links are added to syllabi and documents without adding the proxy to the url
  • You might be prompted that you need to pay for access or to "login", or you may not be able to interact with the book beyond what you see on the main page
  • ACE logins will not work in this instance because the host website (ClinicalKey, AccessMedicine) does not recognize that as an account
  • The easiest way to resolve this issue as a student is to go to the required/recommended reading guide and access the book through the link there. If the book is not in the guide, you can use the Proxy link generator to create a proxied link with the given url on the fly.
